That file is for mapping newsrcs (newsgroup lists stating which articles
have been read) to news-servers, but the error message is about your local
system.

If you can't configure you system with a valid domain name you could use
(see tin(5)):
| /etc/tin/tin.defaults
[...]
| domainname
| Sets a global domain name used in From lines
as a last resort.
